Upcoming opportunities for supplemental training regarding the Produce Safety Rule. The Produce Safety Program within the North Carolina Department of Agriculture & Consumer Services is offering three workshops in collaboration with North Carolina State University, NC State Extension, and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. These workshops will be hosted:

The Cleaning and Sanitation Workshop aims to promote greater understanding of cleaning and sanitation practices that can be implemented on and around the farm to meet, and potentially exceed, the requirements of the Produce Safety Rule. While the primary focus is under Subpart

L: Equipment, Tools, Buildings, and Sanitation and under Subpart K: Growing, Harvesting, Packing, and Holding Activities; Subpart A: General Provisions will also be reviewed. This workshop is designed to be interactive using presentations that encourage discussions, scenario-based small group breakouts, hands-on activities, and in-person demonstrations. The workshop is structured to accommodate regional considerations within the content.

The Water Systems Workshop aims to promote greater understanding of water systems, water quality trends, water assessments, water distribution and connections, and water treatment equipment options as it relates to produce safety risks on the farm. This workshop is designed to be interactive using presentations that encourage discussions, scenario-based small group breakouts, and hands-on activities. The workshop is structured to accommodate regional considerations within the content. This workshop will ensure the attendee has the knowledge and skills to evaluate their water systems for risk factors that may affect the safety of fresh produce for human consumption.
