Nash County is one of North Carolina's premier sweetpotato-producing counties, contributing to the state's position as the nation's leading sweetpotato producer for over 40 consecutive years. NC Cooperative Extension supports local growers with research-based guidance on variety selection, pest and disease management, soil fertility, irrigation, and post-harvest handling. A highlight of the program is the annual Regional Sweetpotato Production Meeting, hosted on a rotating basis among four of eastern North Carolina's top sweetpotato-producing counties — Nash, Wilson, Johnston, and Sampson. The 2025 meeting was co-hosted by Nash and Johnston Counties; the 2026 meeting by Wilson and Sampson Counties. The 2027 meeting will return to Nash and Johnston Counties.
