The Regional Goat and Sheep Producer Training held on Saturday January 30, 2016 at the Guilford County Extension Office in conjunction with the North Carolina Sheep Producers’ Association annual meeting was a tremendous success as 146 people were in attendance. Such a large number of attendees is a clear indication of the high demand for information by NC small ruminant producers.

Following lunch, an ‘Ask the Experts’ session was led by Dr. Jean-Marie Luginbuhl.

Participants also mentioned that they would like to see this type of training on a regular basis and for the planning committee to have Dr. Jean-Marie Luginbuhl at the next event.

This training would not have been possible without the efforts of a dedicated group of Cooperative Extension agents and directors. The planning committee consisted of: Lauren Langley, Alamance, Ben Chase, Guilford & Rockingham, Joey Knight, Caswell, Sam Groce, Chatham, Jonathan Black, Randolph, April Bowman, Forsyth, Kim Wood, Person, Karen McAdams – Retired Extension Agent & NC Sheep Producers Association Board Member, John Brasfield – Retired Extension Agent & NC Sheep Producers Association Board Member, and Andy Burlingham, Pitt, as speaker for the Meat Goat Session and representing the NC Boer Goat Association. Glenn Detweiler, Cooperative Extension Agent from Catawba and Lincoln hired October 2015, was also in attendance.

Partners involved were N.C. Cooperative Extension, NC Sheep Producers’ Association, Boer Goat Association of NC, and NC Department of Agriculture & Consumer Services. Producers who brought demonstration animals are also acknowledged.
