I do tours of Chatham County Cooperative Extension’s popular Pollinator Paradise Garden every month for the general public as well as private groups like beekeepers, garden clubs, Master Gardener Volunteers, and others. I am currently conducting a survey to collect feedback on all the pollinator programs I do and one person said that he was never able to attend the regularly scheduled monthly tours because he was a farmer and was at a farmers’ market on Wednesdays at 5:30 p.m. He requested I do some tours during the morning and so I have added a morning tour for October and will make sure and schedule some for 2016 and beyond as well.

Monday October 5 at 10:00 a.m. Chatham County Agriculture Agent Debbie Roos will be giving a tour of Chatham County Cooperative Extension’s Pollinator Paradise Demonstration Garden at Chatham Mills in Pittsboro. The garden was designed to provide forage habitat for pollinators such as honey bees, native bees, butterflies, flower flies, hummingbirds, beetles, and other beneficial insects.

No registration is required…just meet on the lawn in front of Chatham Marketplace at 10:00 a.m., rain or shine! The garden is looking great and has over 40 different species in bloom this week.

You can view photos of the garden on Extension’s Growing Small Farms website.

The garden is at 480 Hillsboro St. Pittsboro, NC 27312.

The “What’s in Bloom” section of the garden website features snapshots of the garden as well as photos of all the plants currently in bloom.

My last public tour of the garden for 2015 will be on October 21 at 5:30 p.m. so mark your calendars!
